Create Your Own Life Plan!

What is a Life Plan?

In order to accomplish both personal and career goals, you must incorporate both sets of goals into one cohesive plan, called a Life Plan.  If this is not done, several problems may occur, such as:

  1. You achieve your career goals at the expense of your personal goals
  2. You discover too late that your career and personal goals conflict with each other
  3. You achieve some of your life goals, but never really achieve the career goals you set for yourself
  4. You don’t accomplish your career goals, which causes you not to accomplish your life goals, thereby accomplishing none of your goals

What are life goals?

  1. Long-term personal goals incorporated with career goals
  2. Goals that focus on what’s most important to us
  3. Goals that reflect our values
  4. They encompass emotional, financial and physical factors
  5. They usually include others who are close to us

Career goals are another crucial part of the life plan.  They are different from, yet intertwined with, personal goals - and they can be accomplished by a business plan.  However, prior to creating a formal business plan, we must establish our career goals.  This career planning is done as part of the Life Plan.
